  • State Senator, Gerald Cardinale spoke at the General Membership Meeting about legislation that will allow sole proprietors (small business owners) to join employer health benefits purchasing alliances that include local Chambers of Commerce. This legislation addresses a critical problem that small businesses have in covering themselves and their employees. We also heard from John DePalma, MPH, Regional Director of UHY Employee Benefits Consulting Services and member of the Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce on what local chambers across the state are doing to support this proposed legislation. If passed, the average savings on health insurance premiums will be from 3 to 5%. Senator Cardinale stressed that a letter writing campaign by chamber members is extremely important in helping get the bill on the floor of the state senate and up for a vote.

The sidewalk sale was salvaged and approved by the mayor and council and will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 14, 15 and 16.
